Draw in a Sketchbook with Andrew James

Sunday 9 February<br>10am to 4pm <br><br>If you've always wanted to keep a sketchbook, this is the ideal workshop for you- no matter your level of experience.<br>With energy and humour, Andrew James will guide you through a variety of fun ways to draw in a book.<br>We'll do a whole bunch of drawings, from funny doodles to everyday objects. <br>You'll leave with a smile on your face, some drawing in your book, and some new skills and ideas.<br><br>Bring a sketchbook and a pen. Inspired by Boro - Jacket with Clare Smith

Sunday 13 April<br>10:00am to 4pm<br>Anyone interested in simple hand stitching especially sashiko and boro.<br><br>Make the panels for a simple jacket or vest with boro or kantha style running stitch. A simple jacket pattern will be provided but class participants are welcome to use their own as log as they have made a toile ( a test version) to check for fit. The panels for the jacket will be laid out separately in the class and then most of the hand - stitching will be completed at home. Sashiko and boro stitch patterns will be shown in class. There is an opportunity for students to attend the Slow stitch group at KACC to get together and work on their jacket panels. Completion of the jacket and opportunities to get help with this will be discussed in class. <br><br>It is also possible to make a wallhanging, cushion or bag in this class if you don’t have time to complete the stitching on a whole jacket. <br>

Shibori and Hapa Zome Dye Techniques with Yvonne de Mille

Shibori is a traditional Japanese manual resist dyeing technique that uses binding, stitching, and folding to create patterns on fabric. Hapa Zome translates to "leaf dye," and is a form of eco-dying or natural dyeing. <br><br>Learn basic shibori folding, twisting, bunching, binding, and dying techniques to create beautiful designs on fabric. Unbinding and unfolding fabric after dyeing to reveal the pattern is always a happy surprise!<br><br>Explore the magical art of Hapa Zome. Transfer natural pigments found in flowers and leaves to fabric to create stunning botanical designs. <br><br>This workshop is for anyone with a playful spirit.

Andrew James presents how to keep an illustrated journal in pen and watercolour. No subject matter is off-limits.<br><br>In this fun and encouraging class, we'll learn how to draw moments from our lives in our sketchbooks and then bring those sketches to life with watercolour. The first week is an introduction to the wonderful world of watercolour, and each following week, we will look at different genres of sketchbook drawing, taking a page from one of Andrew's books and learning to create your version of it.<br><br>Andrew takes the course in the direction the class dictates, making each term of this course different and fresh. <br><br>Some genres covered include:<br>- Interior scenes - bathrooms, lounges, kitchens<br>- Collections of objects - like kids' toys, tools or <br>- Food and drink. Sculpting Animals with Sarah Dean

Mondays 3:30 to 4:45<br>10 February to 31 March<br>Ideal for 9 - 13 year olds.<br><br>Learn the process of making animal sculptures from polymer clay. Every animal sculpture begins with a wire armature, which acts like the animal's skeleton. Learn how to use reference photos to create an interesting and dynamic pose. Build the animal's muscle and flesh around the armature using polymer clay. Bring your sculptures to life with fine details, and textures. Before they are ready to paint, the polymer sculptures are baked in an oven to harden the clay. Once baked, the sculptures are ready to paint!<br><br>A materials charge of $15 is included in the class fee providing students with a block of polymer clay, a wooden board, wire, and aluminum foil.<br>The materials charge allows each student to make one medium-sized animal. If the student is a fast worker or wishes to make a larger animal, extra materials can be purchased through the KACC office for an additional $15.

Afterschool Art for Ages 11 to 13 with Rowena Fry

Wednesdays 4:30 to 5:45<br>12 February to 2 April<br> Specifically designed for intermediate-aged children from ages 11 to 13. <br><br>Start the term drawing with lovely rich charcoal, chalk pastels, oil pastels...even drawing with paint! Learn about foreshortening so objects can look close up and far away. Play with turning the ‘volume’ up and back down again so that all lines don’t look the same. Next, make a zine about our dream life; mixing our drawing skills with storytelling. Finish up the term by creating 3-dimensional art!<br>

Beginner Sewing for Kids with Rosie Fresen

Tuesdays 4:45 to 6 pm<br>11 February to 1 April<br><br>This is a fast-paced children’s class designed to teach children long-term sewing skills so they can continue their passion. The term will begin with practicing on scrap fabric. Then, students will learn to follow an indie sewing pattern, which they will choose during their first lesson. <br><br>Sessions run based on the pace of the class which can vary – projects will be completed by the end of term. <br><br>The $12 pattern fee is included in the class cost. Fabric will need to be purchased; details will be given after the first class. <br><br>
